Honda is gearing up to launch its first electric scooter in FY2024-25
Honda is gearing up for its first electric scooter launch to compete in India’s growing electric vehicle market. And it is confirmed that Honda will plan on further expansion of both its presence and its portfolio in the industry. The Japanese giant has plans laid out for enhancing its production capacity to transform its portfolio towards electric mobility and gain its market share in the sector.
Honda’s Ambitious Plan For India’s Growing EV Sector
The automaker has increased its capacity with two additional production lines in its facilities in both Karnataka and Gujarat. This expansion is aimed at the growing demand both both ICE-powered two-wheelers and electric vehicles. According to several reports, Honda is developing its first electric scooter, codenamed K4BA in one of its facilities. It is scheduled for production in late 2024 at Honda’s Karnataka manufacturing plant.
Honda’s further expansion plans focus on its growth with a double-digit growth rate projected in the year 2024-25. Its new electric vehicle will make the company’s zero-emission commitment into reality with further measures taken to achieve net zero goals. The auto giant has also opened its third production line at its Gujarat facility which further increases its capacity to 6.6 lakh units annually.
Honda’s New Electric Scooter
The Japanese automaker will also make a dedicated production line for its upcoming electric scooter, with one set to begin in the second half of FY24. Honda aims to achieve a production capacity of 5.75 million units in this fiscal year further increasing it to break its FY2018-19 record of 5.9 million units.
Honda will enter India’s growing EV market in the H2 of FY2024-25 with its new Activa EV. It also aims to expand its product portfolio in the EV space with new additions to its electric two-wheeler lineup in the coming months after the launch. The company is reportedly working on two brand new electric scooters for India launch and targets to achieve it by localising its batties and motor.
