Vietnamese automaker VinFast to make its India entry with two new electric models, scheduled for 2025 launch
Popular Vietnamese EV giant, Vinfast is all set to enter India with its two brand-new models. According to several reports, Vinfast will arrive in the Indian EV market with a crossover hatchback and a compact SUV, slated to debut in H2 2025. The automaker will also benefit from the new EV policy and reduced taxes on electric vehicles in India. Vinfast will launch its VF e34 and the VF 5 electric cars in India from its global portfolio of 6 total EVs.
It is rumoured that the Vietnamese EV giant will aggressively price its electric models to compete with Hyundai, BMW, and the upcoming Tesla EV in the Indian EV market. The company also has plans to expand its portfolio in India in 12 months after launching its EVs.
Vinfast VF e34 Specifications
The VF e34 is a high-riding hatchback with SUV design elements making it suitable for the Indian market and its growing crossover demands. It will rival upcoming EVs like the Tata Curvv EV, the Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti’s eVX. The VF e34 packs a large 41.9kWh battery pack and a single electric motor that produces an output of 150 hp and 242 Nm.
It offers an NEDC range of 318.6 km on a single charge and supports fast charging. Inside, it features a larger 10-inch touchscreen and a premium-looking dual-tone beige and black finish making it more appealing and upscale. The VinFast VF e34 will start at around Rs 25 lakh while the top-end model will start at Rs 30 lakh.
Vinfast VF 5 Specifications
Vinfast will also launch an electric SUV, the VF5. The compact electric SUV is also known as the VF 5 Plus, featuring slightly smaller proportions from the Tata Nexon EV. The VF5 packs a 37.23 kWh battery pack and is capable of delivering a range of up to 326 Km on a single charge. It packs a single electric motor that produces 136 hp and 135 Nm of torque. The electric car can accelerate from 0-100 kph in just 10.9 seconds and weighs 1,360 Kg.
The new VF5 will offer a delicately designed interior with modern tech and will feature ADAS and standard six airbags. The EV giant will also price the VF5 aggressively and may match the Nexon EV price tag. It will be priced between Rs 14 lakh to Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and will compete with the Citroen eC3, Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400 and the new Tata Punch EV.
Making EVs In India
Vinfast will likely make its EVs in India soon after its entry with the localization of several parts and components sourced from the country itself. The company’s India CEO has shared some details about its India entry, though scarce at the moment but emphasizes offering world-class products to Indian consumers.
The company will make India a strong manufacturing hub and export its vehicles from the India plant. Vinfast will build its plant on the 400 acres of land given by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) which is also closer to the port, making the exports more accessible from the country.
