Indigo Partners with Archer Aviation for Flying Taxi Services In India by 2026

Indigo’s parent company InterGlobe Enterprise has partnered with US-based Archer Aviation to start Flying Taxi services in India

Indigo Airline’ parent company InterGlobe Enterprises will introduce a new EV flying taxi service in India with the partnership with Archer Aviation by 2026. This groundbreaking advancement in the both tech and transportation industries with revolutionize how we commute in India. It is aimed to bring urban transportation to the next level and provide seamless connectivity between two hubs.

The new (eVTOL) technology enables electric vehicles to vertically take off and land seamlessly, providing comfortable movability. This collaboration targets to deploy 200 aircraft Archer Aviation with eVTOL tech to go between the hubs and back. Each aircraft features a 12-rotor system and is capable of carrying four passengers apart from the pilot.

These aircraft developed by Archer Aviation operate just like a helicopter but with less noise creation and offer more safety compared to them. These machines work far better than regular helicopters, providing a more intuitive experience and reducing travel time due to their air advantage. Archer Aviation in partnership with InterGlobe Enterprise will start its flying taxi services starting between Delhi’s Connaught Place to Haryana’s Gurugram.

Services and Price

The starting route between Gurugram and Connaught Place will take a flight time of only 7 minutes and the cost for the route will range from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000. In addition to that, this joint venture will also extend its services to electric cars between Mumbai and Bengaluru. Archer Aviation has also discussed it with authorities such as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the US for gaining necessary certifications and approvals for operations in the commercial sector.

The company has also started discussions with municipality bodies and laid out plans for developing its infrastructure. It also focuses on future collaborations to offer a next-level ecosystem for electric taxi services in India. CEO and Founder of Archer Aviation Adam Goldstein stated that air taxi service will make an immense change in the average travel time with conventional transportation sources.

The electric air taxi service will start its operations in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai for its first phase rollout and will further move to other major cities. It will require an investment of over $1 billion, with Archer Aviation set to open its first manufacturing facility in the US this year with a capacity of 650 aircraft annually and further increasing to 2,000. Archer Aviation signed a MoU with InterGlobe Enterprise to make its India presence possible.
