BMW India has launched its i5 electric sedan in India, starting at Rs. 1.20 Crore
BMW has finally launched its premium electric sedan, i5 in India with a price tag of Rs. 1.20 Crore (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The brand’s premium electric sedan will be sold in India via the CBU route for its top-spec M60 xDrive variant. The new i5 EV will sit below the i7 flagship sedan and above the i4 in India. This new car is aimed at the brand’s EV presence in India expanding with the i5 sedan. Currently, the German marque has the iX1, iX, i4, and i7 in its electric portfolio.
Design & Exterior
The 2024 BMW i5 M60 is the top-spec variant of the brand’s portfolio and offers the best of performance, providing all the features and elements making it among the best choices when compared to the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan. It features a gorgeous design with its M-spec sportier elements. The Indian model packs an illuminated kidney-shaped grille finished in high-gloss plastic. The front features slim headlights with vertical LED DRLs with aggressive intakes and a front bumper. The EV offers flush-fitted door handles with a side skirt and new 20-inch alloy wheels.
At the rear, the BMW i5 offers a similar design language inspired by its elder sibling with LED taillights and a sportier diffuser. BMW India will offer its i5 sedan in a non-metallic Alpine White finish with several metallic exterior paint options such as M Brooklyn Grey, M Carbon Black, Cape York Green, Phytonic Blue, Black Sapphire, Sophiosto Grey, Oxide Grey, and Mineral White.
Interior & Technology
In the interior, the BMW i5 features a rich, upscale modern cabin with utmost attention to detail stitched with high-end materials and equips high-tech infotainment. It sports a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 OS. The infotainment can be controlled via touch or the controls at the centre. The i5 M60 trim offers M-sport bits and quirks such as a carbon fibre trim dashboard, racing spec on both displays with a flat-bottomed M-leather-wrapped steering. More standard features such as Venganza or Alcantara sports seats with active cooling, a dark roof line with a premium Bowers & Wilkins music system, a panoramic sunroof, and 4-zone climate control, are also present on the i5.
Performance & Range
On the performance front, the new i5 M60 sedan packs two high-performance electric motors that produce a power output of 601 hp and 795 Nm of torque. The power comes from a large 83.9 kWh battery, offering a range of 516 Km (WLTP) on a single charge. The brand claims a 0-100 Kmph run in just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 Kmph for the M60 variant. BMW will also bundle an 11kW home charger with an optional 22kW AC charger with the sedan. It also supports 205 kW DC fast charging support, which can juice up the car from 10-80% in just 30 minutes. BMW will also bundle a standard 2-year/ unlimited warranty with its i5 M60 while the battery warranty covers 8 year/1.6 lakh Km.
