Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car, the eVX is set for India launch in 2025 and will be manufactured at company’s new Gujarat plant

Maruti Suzuki’s first and upcoming eVX will make its India debut at the 2025 Bharat Auto Expo scheduled for January 17-22. The automaker will reportedly make the official production-spec version of its eVX, which was unveiled at the 2024 Tokyo Motor Show as a concept model.

Suzuki has initially planned the car’s production for later this year, the official launch has been postponed until January 2025. Autocar India’s latest reports suggest Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming eVX will make its debut at the Bharat Auto Expo with an official launch set for early 2025.

India is a key market for Maruti Suzuki

India is among the key markets for the Japanese automaker, but the eVX will launch in Europe and soon will be launched in India with manufacturing happening later after the launch. The automaker plans to make its first EV at its new EV production facility in Gujarat. The EV will also be exported to Japan and Europe after sorting the global supply chain for smoother operations.

The upcoming eVX has already been caught testing on Indian roads, suggesting big changes on the exterior and interior. The EV will be built on Suzuki’s new skateboard platform codenamed YY8. The new platform helps it offer more interior space and enhanced design flexibility making it look broad from the inside while keeping its compact SUV stance.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV packs a large 60 kWh battery and dual electric motors that combined offer a power output of 160 hp. The vehicle may also offer all-wheel drive as optional and will deliver a driving range of up to 550 Km on a single charge. It sports a new skateboard platform and will be built at Suzuki Motor’s new production facility in Gujarat.

Maruti Suzuki will use BYD’s new blade battery technology for a more advanced temperature control system that will allow it to offer more range and efficiency. The automaker also plans to make the new battery locally with locally-sourced raw materials from the country.

Pricing & Availability

The new eVX will be priced aggressively to compete with the market leaders such as Tata Motors, Mahindra, MG, and upcoming players such as Hyundai and Kia. The EV will start at around Rs. 18 lakh for the base-spec variant and around Rs. 25 lakh for the top-spec model in India.

It will compete with the new Tata Curvv EV which is priced similarly. The eVX aims to capture more buyers with its upscale design, more features and technology and more reliable and cutting-edge battery tech. It will be available after its January 2025 launch.
